Carbon Steel Socket Fitting
Carbon Steel Socket Fitting is a type of carbon steel fitting that connects pipes through a socket structure. It is widely used in low to medium pressure pipeline systems and has become a commonly used connector for water supply and drainage, heating, and industrial auxiliary pipelines due to its convenient installation and reliable sealing.
Structure and Type
The core of carbon steel socket fittings is the socket design: one end of the fitting is a stepped socket (with an inner diameter slightly larger than the outer diameter of the pipeline), and the other end is a socket (with an outer diameter matching the inner diameter of the pipeline). The connection is achieved through the tight fit between the socket and the socket, supplemented by welding or threaded fixation. Common types include:
Socket elbow (90 °, 45 °): used for pipeline turning, with a socket depth usually 1-1.5 times the outer diameter of the pipeline;
Socket three-way/four-way: realize pipeline branching, with main and branch pipes equipped with sockets, suitable for pipes of different diameters;
Socket tube clamp/union: used for pipeline extension or disassembly, with threaded union for easy maintenance.
The material is mostly low carbon steel such as 20 # and Q235, with a carbon content of ≤ 0.25%, ensuring good weldability and plasticity.
Manufacturing and Connection
Produced using casting or forging processes:
Cast pipe fittings are suitable for mass production, with smooth inner walls but requiring non-destructive testing to avoid porosity;
Forged pipe fittings are made of denser materials and have better pressure resistance than cast ones, making them suitable for medium pressure scenarios (≤ 10MPa).
The main connection method is socket welding: after the pipeline is inserted into the socket, a sealing ring is welded on the outside of the interface, and the height of the welding foot is not less than 1/2 of the pipeline wall thickness; Some low-pressure fittings use threads and sealant to assist in sealing, without the need for welding.
Performance and Application
Cost advantage: The price is only 30% -50% of stainless steel socket fittings, suitable for large-scale pipeline systems.
Strong adaptability: working temperature -20 ℃ to 350 ℃, capable of transporting non corrosive media such as water, steam, compressed air, etc., with pressure resistance levels covering Class 150 to Class 300 (1.6-5MPa).
Typical application scenarios:
Building water supply and drainage riser (DN15-DN100);
Branch pipe connections for heating systems (socket elbows to reduce resistance);
Low pressure compressed air pipelines in industrial plants.
